Why Is Captain Fall’s Second Season Got Cancelled?
Netflix’s animated comedy series “Captain Fall” encountered setbacks regarding its second season, ultimately leading to its cancellation. Initially announced in July 2020, the show received an upfront order for 20 episodes to be released in two parts, a common practice in animation due to the nature of animated productions.
However, concerns arose regarding viewership after the release of the first ten episodes. Joel Trussell, the executive producer and showrunner, revealed on LinkedIn that although the next ten episodes were fully written, recorded, and storyboarded, their production hinged on the reception of the initial episodes.
Trussell emphasized the need for a robust reception to justify the production of additional episodes. Unfortunately, despite efforts and the initial order, Netflix canceled “Captain Fall” in November 2023.
The cancellation occurred amidst Season 1, with production delays caused by recent strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) contributing to the decision. Additionally, concerns about subscriber views versus production costs played a role in the cancellation.
